There are always surprises and unexpected juxtapositions in surrealism works, and it is the marvelous element that makes surreal objects different and impressive. Surrealism is now much more than a movement in the history but becomes a penetrating and strong expression, while a significant number of designs with the surreal/surprise elements have been successful in the past few years. Hundreds and thousands of products are released everyday. In this highly competitive market, how can we distinguish our design and draw the attention of the public has become crucial than ever before. Four major design expressions that can produce “surreal” works are categorized through previous researches and thirty-five design case studies. These design expressions/manipulations include: abstraction of materiality, violation of physical properties, denial of space and time, and object vitalization. Four sets of concepts were conducted based on the refined surreal design expressions as references to future projects and design processes. These design ideas include: (1) Mirage Pendant Light, creating indistinct images to express the idea of mirages. (2) Corroded Chairs, mimicking the form of corroded objects and fragile items through tilted structures and free foaming. (3) Drop of Flowers, capturing the immediate transition when color drop dissolve in water through glass vases. (4) Lighting Creature, combining characteristics both from animals and plants to create a new, exotic creature. Jeng-Neng Fan 范振能 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 156 zh-TW |
