In the early years, each electronic component distributors strived to act as agents for international brands so as to increase its revenues and margins. Later, as the IC design companies were fully grown, some electronic component distributors formed strategic alliances with them. Despite the pirated products from their counterparts in China over the past few years, some electronic component distributors have started to transform themselves into IC manufacturers and their products are so acceptable in the marketplace, and these newly-transformed electronic component distributors are aiming for greater market shares. To provide their clients with better service and greater value, these electronic component distributors are increasing their labor costs. While putting huge efforts in receiving more orders, these companies are waging a price war or granting a longer term of payments to the buyers, which results in rising costs and declining margins. Thus, each individual company has to find ways to tackle these problems. To increase the competitiveness, some electronic component distributors offer their clients value-added service of skills and techniques, shortening the time of development and production, so that these companies can have longer selling periods. As for those distributors that have no plan for transformation, some of them have been driven out of the market, while the rest of them adopt horizontal merger and acquisition or forge a strategic alliance with other corporations to increase their product lines and continue their diversification strategy, and whichever they choose, surviving in the market is what they are endeavoring to do. The research method is a case study, based on a Taiwanese electronic component distributor, Sunnic Technology & Merchandise, Inc, which was founded in 1985. Sunnic, which used to be a typical electronic component seller and buyer, began entering the domain of skills and techniques marketing, and now it seeks to develop its own brand marketing. By analyzing the strategic thinking, the timing , and the strengths and weaknesses of Sunnic’s transformation, the researcher made suggestions for the studied company in order that the company can have a more successful transformation and better management efficiency and more profit margins in the future.
