In Pop Culture, Japanese robot animation acquires a unique performing style. The performances of robots in this kind of films exceed the scientific limitations in the reality, and even have nothing to do with the actual science. The distinct feature makes Japanese robot animation an exclusive type completely different from those Sci-fi works in Europe and the United States. This work is a short computer animation which has characteristics of Japanese robot animation. In order to better understand the features of this style, the thesis puts emphasis on America, a country popular with Sci-fi cultural products to make comparisons and tries to dig out the uniqueness of Japanese robot animation by collecting related data to understand the different perspectives on robots in Japanese and American Sci-fi works. Then this thesis reviews on the history, changes, and evolving styles of Japanese robot animation, to analyze the performing styles and visual elements of Japanese robot animation, and to extract appropriate information from the collected data so as to transform them into concrete ideas which can be applied into the production of this short computer animation.
