There are two parts in this research. The first part is divided into seven chapters to explore Cheng Fu’s calligraphy. The author took the essence from Cheng Fu in the art of calligraphy, ” Ji Fu Sheng Xin” (Absorbing Fu and creating new), which is based on academic theory and enhanced with own creation, in order to more deeply understand Chen Fu’s calligraphy.
The first chapter is the introduction. The second chapter talks about Cheng Fu’s life and apprentice to research the origins of the books of Cheng Fu, also his relationship with then scholars, calligraphers, painters, poets and collectors of art. The third chapter described the Hanli learning of Cheng Fu: From visiting the steles Han steles and the constantly innovative changing styles to the central concepts of his books. The fourth chapter described style changes and calligraphy staging of Cheng Fu. The fifth chapter further described Cheng Fu’s Lishu works; including the content selection, radical structure, closing phrase and other features. Also the special layout and forgery, with discussion focused on the analysis and comparison of descriptions. The sixth chapter discussed the impact and influence of Cheng Fu Lishu. Further, raised the idea about both Tang Yin and Yi Bingshou were benefited from Cheng Fu’s Lishu. Finally, a summary of conclusions was followed. An appendix based on data gathered from a variety of charts is shown at the back of this thesis.
The second part is author’s calligraphy creation, which is based on the research of Cheng Fu’s calligraphy exhibition and linking with everyday life, also studying some articles, poetry with deep feelings, such as the work shown in Figure 4. Creations inspired by the exhibition, such as work shown in Figure 1. An improvisation of calligraphic work is shown in Figure 17. Feelings after participating children’s Entrance Ceremony, as the work shown in Figure 14. Practicing calligraphy is a creative way to expression, such as the work shown in Figure 5. However, Han steles basic skills are still loyal to the original…, and so on. In addition, the work environment, peers who had been promoted of new positions, retired old friends and calligraphy lovers. Through their own understand on literature, with pen and ink creations to express spiritual feelings. Creating own writing of the language, and in so doing, create calligraphy works in accordance with the different forms of art; such as the works shown in Figure 2 and Figure 3. On one hand, those calligraphic works were used in congratulating the recipients. On the other, they also play an important role in raising the visibility of calligraphy art in society, and promoting the social function of quality calligraphy.
