Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 舞蹈學系 === 101 === Abstract
This thesis uses qualitative research to delve into the role interpretation and creative process of the 2013 National Taiwan University of Arts graduation project “Life of My Body”, in which the lead performer and protagonist was the author himself.
This work is an attempt to express that there are always things to hope for and look forward to in life. It symbolically presents that completing the beginning of a dream is not the end of everything, and that by embracing hope and facing life head-on, one can, together with those around oneself, go towards a future full of love and move others emotionally for eternity.
“Life of My Body” features five pieces: “Me”, “Just Play”, “Love”, “Losing One’s Passion”, and “Just”. These were choreographed by the lead performer’s mentor, Fang-yi Sheu. There was no intermission. This graduation project was the translation of this performer’s life into one emotional dance program. The delight, anger, sorrow and happiness he has experienced from childhood to adulthood were refreshed, reorganized, and recorded, then presented to the audience.
Through the events portrayed, the protagonist comes to better appreciate the present moment. As it is said, life is a journey and death a destination. While treasuring life more, he resolves to sincerely enjoy what is beautiful in life.
For this thesis, the author conducted in-depth research of literature on the origins of street dance, changes in modern dance techniques over time, and theories of role interpretation. The content of “Life of My Body”, its background and the process of interpreting the protagonist’s emotions were collected as data and studied. Experiences and lessons learned during rehearsals and performances of the work supplemented observations from literature to help the author achieve greater understanding of and progress in the performing art of dance.
It is hoped that this thesis, using the work of art itself as well as analysis and records of the interpretative process, can provide a special performance perspective which can serve as a reference to other performers.
