Description
Summary:博士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 職業醫學與工業衛生研究所 === 101 === The growth in traffic, electricity and heating consumptions to meet the demands of urbanization and industrialization in Mongolia, especially Ulaanbaatar, has led to a major increase in air pollution emissions in recent years. Considering the increasing rate of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases in Mongolia during the last 15 years, there is a need to explore whether air pollution as a risk factor rather than behavioral and dietary risk factors. Our study determined the air quality trend by urbanization and industrialization in Mongolia and the health impact assessments of air pollution in Ulaanbaatar. We found that air quality is getting worse in last two decades due to rapid increase of in-migration from rural to urban and economic development in urban and air pollution has become one of the significant contributors of the respiratory and cardiovascular mortality among Ulaanbaatar residents. Our findings provide evidence to Mongolian governments for policy formulation and action to alleviate air pollution and protect public health.
