This study thus focused on female career resilience. Through the career experience of a Taiwanese female executive, this paper seeks to address the issue that how some female executives break free of social constraints and overcome career obstacles. Using the writing of Mrs. Wu, current director of Timberland in Taiwan, I exlored her career resilience with narrative analysis. I have used the career story of a female middle-level manager for supplementary and comparative purposes. My analysis revealed that resilience itself is not the factor that motivates individuals to thrive from difficulties. Instead, motivation is prerequisite to resilience. Resources are not automatically available unless individuals fight for them or apply them. Even after obtaining the resources, individuals still have depend on themselves to actively overcome the hardship. In addition, the challenge for Taiwanese female workers is not only to balance the family and the work, but also to pursuit self-realization. Under the current circumstances, as long as females are willing to fight and exert efforts, it is highly possible that they are able to reach the executive level. To sum up, my results suggest that individuals should develop career resilience, clarify career goals at the early stage, as well as actively plan out their own career paths.
