Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣大學 === 生物產業傳播暨發展學研究所 === 101 === This thesis aims to investigate the characteristics of sibling relationship among Taiwanese youth entering early adulthood. The declining fertility has changed not only the family structure and size but also a variety of family relations. While marital and intergenerational relations have attracted much attention in the academic circle, there are only few studies related to sibling relationship. Therefore, the current study tries to explore the characteristics and patterns of sibling relationship and to examine how the composition of sibling and friendship affect the sibling relationship in early adulthood. The data come from Taiwan Youth Project, including J1 W1, W6, W8, J3 W1, W4 and W6. The sample consists of 2599 Taiwanese respondents. The results of latent class analysis show that there are three types of sibling relationship, named intimate, buddy and apathetic. According to the results of logistic regression analysis, the female respondents are more likely to report having intimate sibling relationship. In terms of sibling structure, the youngest sibling and large sibling size are associated with close relationship. This study also finds that having friends, including peers, boy and girl friends, can increase the closeness of sibling relationship among Taiwanese in their early twenties.
