Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 兒童文學研究所 === 101 === Morris Gleitzman published a series of teen novels for the first time in Taiwan, such as Doubting Thomas, Two Weeks with the Queen, Bumface and Too Small to Fail, which amazed the readers with a brilliant feat. These novels highlighted the issues of teen's concern. With the application of unique imagination, vivid character design as well as the conceived values of ordinary heroes, Morris had created stories about teenager's growth one after another. Although teen novels of this kind are common, the conflicts referred in the text are not confined to the current framework and it is extraordinarily distinctive that the ending of this story often offers the readers space for deeper thinking and reflection.
This study is made up of five chapters .1. Introduction: The background and motivation of this study was illustrated. Besides, related literatures were discussed and the purpose and study scope were defined. 2. Entering into Morris's whimsy world, the writer as well as his works studied in this article were introduced and discussed and the features of the four texts were analyzed.3. The conflicts mentioned in these texts were discussed and reflected .4. Dialogism: By Bakhtin's theory of dialogism, the main characters, readers as well as the thoughts and enlightenment transmitted by society were analyzed. 5. Conclusion: The critical role Morris played in writing teen novel was concluded.
The characters shaped by Morris often help readers to think about the constantly changed life and the growth process from more angles, and to experience life with more humor and broad vision in facing conflicts in real life.
