The subject of this investigation was aiming at junior high school students including the seventh, eighth and ninth grade in Hsinchu City and Hsinchu County and among which that 329 samples were valid. The study tool was self-composed questionnaire titled “Preferences of Mandarin popular songs of junior high school students” which applied frequency distribution, percentage, average, standard deviation, one-sample T- test, independent-sample T-test, and Chi-square test independent testing techniques for further analysis. The substantial conclusions of the preferences of students included the following: 1. Ballad was the most favorite style of the Mandarin popular song. 2. Singer with songwriting ability was the most preferred characteristic for artists. 3. Vocal skill and performance of talent was the most significant characteristic for the singer. 4. Mandarin popular song listened by junior high students was highly correlated with lyric of the song. 5. It had differences on the options of student genders, experience of extracurricular musical lessons and instrument settings at home for the junior high students. Based on the conclusions, the researcher proposes a practical suggestion mainly included: the feasibility of integrating Mandarin popular songs with sociological teaching because the benefits would include (1) creative and lively teaching contents. (2) conforming the developing index of curricular. (3) inspiring the lasting learning for students. The suggestion for the future research was that integrating Mandarin popular songs with sociological teaching was a great tool to develop students’ interest and enthusiasm of exploring sociology and in addition it was able to make students to learn how to apply to daily life with flexible, accurately express emotions, advance morality and living attitude.
