In this study, two readables from the Experimental Mandarin Textbooks are adopted as teaching materials, “Ta Mai Le Yi Zhi Gue.” The Experimental Mandarin Textbooks are edited by Han-Chu Liu , Jing-Zhong Zhao, Rosalind Wu and Mei-Ju Chen. This study aims to explore the effect of using different readables within a same topic. Does it enhance students’ reading abilities? What difficulties teachers may encounter when they use the Literature Circle? How teachers solve these difficulties? This study used active research method to probe research questions. Subjects are two grade six classes from an elementary school in Taipei. There are eighty-four subjects in this study. One of the classes is assigned to the experimental group who has received the Literature Circle for six months, while the other class is assigned to the control group who has received the traditional reading instruction. The research methods include reflections, teaching journals, audio and video recordings, open dialogue and observations from the researcher. Also, the researcher collects work, worksheets and reading feedback from students. The research is expected to inspire a new teaching model for further researchers and teachers. The researcher adopts two scales designed by Wang Mu-Rong and Dong Yi-Li. One is “the Chinese Reading Comprehension Test for the Sixth Graders” and the other is “The Attitude Scale of The Basic Competence Test for Sixth Graders in Taipei’s Elementary Schools”. Two research scales are used to analyze subjects’ reading habits and attitudes. Besides quantitative data, the researcher also collects qualitative from subjects’ work. The main findings of the study are as followings: 1.The Literature Circle conducts a more multiple reading model for students. 2.The Literature Circle escalates students’ reading comprehension. 3.The Literature Circle accelerates students to share reading feedbacks with others.
