Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 台灣文化研究所 === 101 === From 1980s to 1990s, Taiwan had experienced a drastic transition in both its economic and political system. With the booming business and rapid development of industry, the middle class who clustered in the big cities had become a major source of cultural production and consumption. During those years, the novels with the topic of “love” were very popular among the female novelists and readers. Lin Dai-Man(1962-)became one of the female writers in the late 90s.
First of all, the study focus on Lin’s educational background and vocational experience. The results shows that Lin was born in Nan-Tou, a small town in central Taiwan. The memory of her childhood became her material of writing. Her life experience can easily be found in her books, no matter where the scene is set, in the countryside or in the big cities. Lin’s writing style is completely different from that of other contemporary writers, who are mainly writing novels with a topic of sexual liberation, or from man’s point of view. Therefore, this study will mostly be dedicated to Lin’s personal life review and the exploration of difficulties that other women face in their lives during that time.
Secondly, Lin described a lot about the women’s position during that time and how they reacted and survived in face of the unfriendly outside world. She had very clear and thorough description about how women can still stay calm and optimistic, while confronted with the unsatisfactory environment and struggling for self-dependence and self-awareness.
At last, the study analyzes the structures and forms of her novels, points out her narrative habits related fictions material of writing as well, therefor the future researchers could think about the novel aspects of artistic aesthetics.
