Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 體育學系碩士班 === 101 === The purposes of this study were to determine the validity and reliability of the Chinese version of Whitehead’s (1995) Children and Youth Physical Self-perception Profile (CY-PSPP). The CY-PSPP questionnaires were completed by 230 elementary-aged children (110 boys and 120 girls) with average age 11.71± .633 years. The result of exploratory factor analysis (EFA) indicated the subscle of Physical Self-concept contained four dimensions: Sport/Athletic Competence, Condition/Stamina Competence, Attractive Body Adequacy and Strength Competence. Physical Self-worth and Self-esteem maintained the single dimension. These EFA results showed that the CY-PSPP demonstrated the theoretical expected factorial validity. Zero-order correlation analysis showed that four dimentions of physical self-concept were positively related to physical self-worth and self-esteem. However, the corrrlation between every dimension of physical self-concept and physical self-worth are signacificantly higher than the correlation between every dimension of physical self-concept and self-esteem. The four dimensions of physical self-concept explained more percentange variance of self-worth (62.4%) than that of self-esteem (32.0%). Physical self- worth mediated the impact of every dimemtions of physical self-concept on self-esteem, which supported the hierarchical structure of physical self-concept, physical self-worth and self-esteem. The correlations on the criterion for Children's Physical Self-Concept Inventory (CPSI) (Chuang, 1995) indicated that the subscales of CY-PSPP demonstrated theorically expected higher association with the revelant subscalesand lower relationship with the irrelvelant subscales of the CPSI. The results determine the convergent and discriminant validity of CY-PSPP internal structure and demonstrate the hypothesized relationship of physical self-concept to the relevant external variables.
