One is to understand Donggang residents’ local identity as well as festival participating behavior, and participant identification with 2012 Donggang Wangye Worshipping Ceremony. The other is to explore the relationship between local identity, participating behavior and participant identification with the ceremony. “Questionnaire survey” has been used as a method to collect data for analysis, and questionnaire based on related literatures is adopted as a tool while residents above 20 years old in Donggang, Pingtong County are chosen for study. 599 questionnaires were issued while 568 valid ones were received, with valid sample rate 94.3%. The major findings are listed as follows: 1.Most participants have the participation experience more than 7 times in the triennial Wangye Worshipping Ceremony, and most of them are the general public. The inspection tour attracts the majority in the ceremony. People set up the incense burner table in front of the house according to the tradition, and their major cause to participate the ceremony is for cherishing the local culture. 2.Residents of Donggang have a strong sense of identification with the ceremony. Moreover, behavior identification domain has a numerical superiority in comparison to cognitive identification domain and affective identification domain. 3.Residents of Donggang have an above average sense of local identity, and the “cognitive identification ” domain is the highest as the “participatory identification” domain is the lowest in comparison. 4.There are variations in residents’ Wangye Worshipping Ceremony participating behavior caused by the difference of gender, age, education, career, living area, living state, and the length of residence. 5.The length of residence is the influence factor of variations in residents’ identification with the ceremony, while gender, age, and living state are the influence factors of variations in residents’ local identity. 6.The residents who have participated this ceremony over 20 years as well as with 3 or 5 kinds of reasons to participate, have higher degree of local identity. 7.There is a positive correlation between residents’ local identity and their attitude toward Donggang Wangye Worshipping Ceremony. 8.Residents’ attitude toward Donggang Wangye Worshipping Ceremony has a significant prediction on their local identity. The prediction capacity derived from “affective identification with the ceremony” is the highest, and that derived from “cognitive identification with the ceremony” is the second highest. 9.There are variations in residents’ participating behavior caused by different roles played in Donggang Wangye Worshipping Ceremony. 10.The residents who are members of ceremony commission and local religious elites have higher degree of local identity.
