The results indicated that number of active vessel was, on average, 2/3 of the registered vessel in the region. Many of these vessels also showed multi-fisheries operation, and also involved with oyster aquaculture depending upon seasons and condition of the marine fishery catch. Differences in species composition and diversity were evident among fisheries, but annual variations in each of these fisheries were less. Seasonal assemblages of fish caught were different among fisheries, and in general, can be separated as warmer (Mar.-Sept., Mar.-Nov. or Apr.-Nov.) and cooler (Nov.-Feb., Nov.-Apr., or Dec.-Jan) seasons. These assemblages and varied slightly by years (i.e., shifted by 1-2 months) presumely related to the environmental condition. The actual realized scale of each type, and the overall of the small scale artisanal fishery in the region, were then estimated based on the operational characteristics of each fisheries, the embark and disembark data of each vessel recorded by coastal guard. The overall catch of the fishery was estimated to be about 3,000 mt, and valued at about 0.5 to 1.0 billion NT dollars, which were much higher than the records showed in the fishery year book (4-500 mt, valued at 80-150 million NT dollors). In addition, the estimated catch showed decreasing trend in recent 3 years, while the effort (no. of vessels) was actually increased. The results presented in this study may have important implications for the dynamics, estimation of actual scale, as well as management of the small scale fisheries in Taiwan. Recommendations related to the collection of catch statistics, and management of the fishery also were proposed. Shyh -Bin Wang 王世斌 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 83 zh-TW
