This dissertation seeks to discuss the reason why his works are the most representative of Erhu music nowadays.
This dissertation sums up his life, education, experience, and creative ideas and summarized the No.4 Erhu Rhapsody’s musical structure, melodic material, rhythmic patterns and harmony in an analysis of the music. According to Wang’s theory, one should play with the correct melodic style and dynamic analysis to establish the composer’s ideas, for the right balance of rationality and emotion while performing.
As the author indicates in the conclusion, Wang makes good use of rhapsody and folk song features. He also uses subtle yet complex composition techniques, such as breaking rhythm patterns and using colorful harmony, to compose music which touches the soul. This dissertation provides a new point of view for further research in the future.
