Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣師範大學 === 表演藝術研究所 === 101 === In Taiwan, the temple activities and religious ceremonies not only showcase the vitality of Taiwanese local beliefs, but they also provide the performance troupes from different Taoist temples with an opportunity to shine. All in all, the performances of the folk arts groups take these festive activities with their cultural value to a whole new level.
However, influenced by social changes, as well as the transformation of the modern life style and people’s recreation, the folk arts groups were once replaced by performances with great audio-visual effects andextreme sensational stimulation. It was not until the three following events –the performance of the Electric-Techno Third Prince at the 2009 Kaohsiung World Games opening ceremony, the 2010 hit song Bless, and the 2012 blockbuster Din Tao: Leader of the Parade, that the folk arts groups started to be recognized and loved again by the society. What’s more, their negative impression was also removed. Nevertheless, there is still something left unknown and awaited to be unfolded –the fundamental content of the folk arts groups and the changes of their promoting strategies.
In goal of comprehending the transformation strategies usedby the folk arts groups, this research paper takes Chio-Tian Folk Drumsand Arts Troupe as a research case, using qualitative research method. This paper aims to research about the case which was founded in 1995, and how they refined, professionalized and internationalized the earlier version of the temple activities for the past 18 years. With wide collection and analysis of secondary data, this paper anticipates a deeper exploration and systematic analysis of the transformation problems that the folk arts group encountered. On top of that, there will also be a close analysisinto the inner and outer conditionsand their strategy assessment during the process of transforming. Last but not least, the systematic conclusion will serve as a reference for the future folk arts group aiming to transform.
The research finds that Chio-Tian Folk Drumsand Arts Troupetransforms significantly in terms of their performance style and function. Its transformation strategies, content of performance, performance design and performance typeshave developed into ones that a professional performing arts group should acquire. In sum, the critical four factors contributing to their successful transformation serve best as a model for the other folk arts groups.
