For example, the technology of the gilding in the Spring and Autumn Period, the chromium oxidation treatment bronze sword in the Qin Dynasty, and the jade surface carburizing treatment in the Han Dynasty. The purpose of these surface treatments processing technology is to make the materials more resistant to corrosion, abrasion, longevity, and gloss appearance. No analytical and characteristic to define the ancient surface treatment processing technology. The ancient surface treatment technology is beyond our imagination and can be seen by the preserved artifacts. In this study, by using modern technology of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS) to investigate the surface treatment process of the bronze sword in the Warring States period and the jade in Han Dynasty. High carbon contents were found in the surface of ancient samples. It shows the carburize treatment technologies were developed to prevent corrosion of artifacts in the Warring States and Han period.
