Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺中教育大學 === 教育學系 === 101 === The prupose of this paper was to discuss the current stituation concerning elementary school parents’ parenting styles and English learning attitude, and to analyze the relationship between them in Taichung city.Using the results in this paper to offer suggestions. These suggestions may be used as reference for teachers and further researchers.
To accomplish this goal, this paper was compiled from researched and studied documents, surveys, and gathering and analyzing information. As for the survey, it covers 33 public elementary schools in Taichung city, involving 1281 students and 1195 parents as case studies. The instruments used in this study were“Parents Parenting Styles Scale”and “English Learning Attitude Scale”. The data gathered from the survey were analyzed and presented by median, average, percent, standard deviation, chi- aquare test and one-way ANOVA with SPSS for Windows 12.0 in Chinese version.
Here were the results from the research:
1. Parents of elementary school students with “authoritative”parenting styles were in majority.
2. The situation of elementary school students’ English learning attitude was higher then the standard.
3. Parents’ parenting styles differed according to the different academic degree.
4. Parents’ parenting styles differed according to the different social economic status.
5. The public elementary school students’ English learning attitude differed according to different parents’ parenting styles.
According to these findings, some suggestions for parents of elementary school students, goverment and educational guidance were proposed. Moreover, recommendations for further studies were also offered in this dissertation.
