It adopts quasi experimental study and takes the Grade-4 students of two classes in Hai Siann Primary School of Nantou County as the subjects. The students in the experimental group are taught by marine-theme picture book reading course integrated with inferential strategy, while the those in control group is provided with 8 picture books for reading by the students themselves. The study employs the following study tools, self-compiled Test for Cognition towards Marine Environmental Protection and Ecological Conservation, four demonstrative articles of PIRLS 2006, i.e. The Upside-Down Mice, Antarctica: Land of Ice, Dolphin Rescue, and Spacewalking, as well as the Learning Satisfaction Scale. The obtained data are analyzed by such statistical methods as independent sample t-test, dependent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, and percentage. The study results are as below: I. The students in experimental group and control group show difference in the performance of Test for Cognition towards Marine Resources, and the students in experimental group enhance the cognition ability in two aspects of marine environmental protection and marine ecological conservation. II. The students in experimental group and control group don’t show difference in pre- and post-performance of the reading comprehension ability and reasoning ability. III. The students in the experimental group show positive attitude towards the course of applying inferential strategy in the reading teaching of marine education in three aspects of cognition, skill and emotion. Based on above study results, the study proposes suggestions for the on-field teachers and researchers for reference.
