Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺中教育大學 === 區域與社會發展學系碩士班 === 101 === Abstract This research is to discuss the growth and distribution of the population in Dongshi District of Taichung City between the year of 1905(the 38th year of Meiji period when Taiwan was occupied by the Japanese government ) and2010(the 101 th year of the Republic Era of Taiwan) . The research results are as followed: 1.The overall population growth: The population of Dongshi District had increased from 14,159 in 1905 to 27,875 in 1943. The growth index had reached to 196.87 with the total population growth of 13,716 people. The average annual growth was 352 people ,and the average growing rate was 18.10‰. After the retrocession (when Taiwan was no longer under the control of the Japanese government) the population had increased from 27,998 in1946 to 52,403 in2012. The growth index had reached 187.17 . This represents the population had grown 0.87 times more in 66years with the average annual growth rate of 9.98‰. 2.The rate of natural increase of population and the community/society increase: The increased population of Dongshi District was due to the natural increase in .After the retrocession , it was again affected by natural increase and community/society increase has been showing negative after 1972. After 1993 , the influence of natural increase gradually weakened , it caused population decline . 3.The difference of the population growth between different areas of Dongshi District: During the period of time when Taiwan was controlled by Japanese government , Dongshi Street and its adjacent area was blooming quickly . The development centered around Dongshi Street was the main driven force of the population growth . After the retrocession , the growing rate was slow and declining around old streets . The population growth of the town centers nearby was increasing (rapidly or slowly) , while it was increasing slowly or decreasing around the rural areas . 4.The population structure: As for the gender ratio , female exceeded over male during the governance of Japan . After 1920 ,male exceeded over female and was remained the same after retrocession. Due to the fast development of the service industries , the ratio has dropped to 107.41. With the national family planning promotion set into action and the elevating of people’s average , the age structure was com posed with a decrease in children to 13.03% and an increase in elderly to 15.57%. The dependency ratio had dropped from over 70 before retrocession to 40.05 in 2012 . 5.The changes of the population ratio between different areas: The population was concentrated mainly around Dongshi Street during the ruling of Japanese government . It remained so during the beginning stage of retrocession . However , with the upgrading industries , the changing of economic structure and the aging city center , the population of the nearby regions increased . This was an indication of the core population shifting from city to rural areas . 6.The differences of the population density among neighborhoods: The population density of Dongshi District had increased from 280 people/km2 in 1946 to 446 people/km2 in 2012 . The population density had always been the city center , but the continuously growing population density in the nearby regions had made its rate surpassing the population growing rate of city center . The rate for regions was far less. Keywords: population growth , distribution of population , Dongshi .
