Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北護理健康大學 === 中西醫結合護理研究所 === 101 === The aging process of human beings will have a diminishing effect on the bodily functions such as loss of muscle mass, and increase in body fat. Elderly people have a tendency to become overweight, thus the incidence of hypertension and cardiovascular disease will rise in this age group. These diseases are included in the top ten cause of death in elderly people. In the present day, it is more likely to have elderly people living by themselves. This has caused a sense of loneliness, depression, social isolation and other psychological-social problems that affect the quality of life in the elderly. In order to alleviate this problem, this study's main objective is to explore the effect of Dharma Drum Eight-Form Moving Meditation on the body composition and quality of life among the elderly. A quasi-experimental research design is used, community aged people as the research subjects (over the age of 50), the experimental group includes 35 subjects, average age of 66.33 ± 6.65 years old, received 30 minutes per time, three times a week, a total of 12 weeks of the Dharma Drum Eight-Form Moving Meditation intervention; 45 control group’s subjects, average age of 64.57 ± 6.38 years old, without any intervention. The two groups took body composition (body mass index, body fat, fat free mass, lean body mass), quality of life (SF-36) tests before and after 12 weeks. SPSS 19.0 version of the mean, standard deviation, percentage, Mann-Whitney U, chi-square test, generalized estimating equations (Generalized estimating equation, GEE) was used for statistical analysis. The results showed that the experimental group had significant improvements (p <0.05) in the test of body mass index, body fat, fat free mass, lean body mass among body composition. In quality of life, the results showed the improving of total score and eight scales in the experimental group, in addition, the control group showed the regressing of partial scales. The results suggest that the Dharma Drum Eight-Form Moving Meditation can be used to improve body composition and enhance quality of life among elderly.
