The communicate protocol of smart appliance alliance control protocol (SAA_Net) is applied for the command transmission from the master station to each air conditioners over the power line. The function of demand response can be obtained to reduce the customer loading by the broadcasting control of remote thermal setting of air conditioners.
To verify the communication performance of control signal using the power line carrier technology, the field testing of PLC over both the low voltage and meddle voltage power line has been executed. By integrating the PLC with the existing optical fiber of distribution automation system (DAS) in Taipower the hybrid communication system is proposed to support the control of air conditioners, it is found that the energy conservation by reducing the system peak loading can be achieved when the proposed system is applied for the remote thermal setting of air conditioners in the residential and commercial sections the power consumption of various type of loads can also be collected and repost to the control center using the two way communication provided by the proposed system.
