Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中山大學 === 社會學系碩士班 === 101 === There has been more and more medical cosmetic news in recent years: the dramatic increase of medical cosmetic consumers, the transformation of the consumer groups, the choice of many medical professionals to enter the medical cosmetic market which has caused the shortage of medical staff, and so on. These remind us of the fact that profound social change occurs when medical behavior is transformed into consumer behavior. Existing literature on medical cosmetology mainly focuses on consumption or marketing strategies, with scant attention to the aspect of production. This thesis aims to study the chain of medical cosmetic clinics in Taiwan, taking into consideration different levels of organizations and actors: clinics and their managers, doctors, medical societies, manufacturers, etc. It attempts to explore how the medical cosmetic industry’s organizational structure and its internal social and power relations influence different levels of actors and shape their orientations and courses of actions (e.g., how the actors’ decisions are influenced by their social skills), and how the strategic actions taken by actors in specific contexts influence, reproduce or transform the original organizational structure and social relations.
