Summary:碩士 === 國立中山大學 === 物理學系研究所 === 101 === In this study, we mainly discuss electro-optical characteristics of blue phase liquid crystals (BPLCs) gratings with different electric field profiles. There are two major parts in this experiment: The first part of the experiment, we use optical isotropic of BPLCs to discuss in vertical electric field whether BPLCs gratings of first-order diffraction efficiency vary. The results revealed that first-order diffraction efficiency didn’t have extreme change (~1%), and first-order diffraction efficiency was reached up to 32% at Es=3.6 V/μm. The second part of the experiment, we use polarization-dependent of BPLCs in horizontal electric field, BPLCs sawtooth gratings switching one-dimension/two-dimension with different polarization of laser beam. One-dimension and two-dimension of first-order diffraction efficiency was reached up to 20.5% and 10.3% at V = 60, respectively. The performance of the response time, because BPLCs cell structure with good response speed. In two experiments, the response time is sub-millisecond levels.
