The national economy and the standard of living have been improved, as well as medicine and technology. Our country has gradually turned into the aging society. In Taiwan, disease patterns had been transformed from infectious disease to chronic disease. The leading causes of death in Taiwan were cancer, heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, Lung disease, diabetes, accidents, hypertensive, chronic liver and kidney disease.They represented more than 60% of the cause of death. The chronic illneses are still high proportion of mortality in Taiwan. Thus, people preventive health care is very important. In the past, the research about health screening services focused more on the cost-effective analysis than cost-benefit analysis. In this study, we use the cost of health screening, treatment cost and disability adjusted life years (DALYs) of chronic diseases to estimate the cost-benefit on adult preventive health examination. The purpose of this article is to provide a guideline for the people in Taiwan for selecting suitable health examinations. This cost-benefit result can also be a useful tool to promote preventive screening by the medical institutes and health screening center. We hope more people to use the adult preventive screening services that would promote the public health and ultimately reduce the cost of treatment in Taiwan.
