In this study, an action research was implemented in the eleven-week NIE curriculum for the female immigrants who attended the Chinese learning class held by North Pingtung Community College. This study adopted literature review, questionnaire surveys and the preliminary test to explore the learning background and learning requirements of the female immigrants. Based on the learning background and requirements, the researcher designed and implemented the NIE curriculum which included two stages. Through the two-stage teaching process, a variety data sources, including observation records, the researcher’s reflections, the students’ performance and feedbacks, learning sheets, formative exams and the results of interviews, were collected and analyzed to examine the appropriateness of the course and to modify and improve the teaching process. The conclusions of this study are as follows: 1. Make the suitable plan for the NIE course for female immigrants (1) The teacher should compile the teaching materials for the NIE course based on the theory of TCSL and NIE. (2) Make the systematic teaching plan for the NIE course combining with the basic Chinese learning course. 2. The achievements of applying NIE to TCSL for female immigrants (1) Newspapers that have useful and diverse contents are suitable materials of Chinese learning for female immigrants. (2) NIE integrate the teaching of reading and the practice of listening, speaking and writing improve the learing effects. 3. The difficulties of applying NIE to TCSL for female immigrants (1) Students’ great divergent Chinese abilities make the teaching design harder. (2) Students’ unstable attendence and the interuptions from kids affect their learning effects.
