This study adopts quasi-experimental research as the research method, and 52 Grade 5 students of two classes at an elementary school in Pingtung County as the research object. In the research, the experiment group uses popular music scores for recorder teaching, and the control group uses general music scores, and then implements an experimental curriculum of 8-week and 16 classes for both groups. Researcher’s self-edited「Recorder Playing Technique Evaluation Form」and「Music Learning Interest Scale」 are the research tools. Along with the effect on controlling the pre-test of「Recorder Playing Technique」 and 「Music Learning Interest」, thus the researcher uses the pre-test scores as the covariance and the post-test scores as the dependent variable to carry out the Two-way ANCOVA to compare the difference between these two groups before and after tests. According the research result, the researcher came out the following conclusions: In terms of recorder playing technique, there is a significant difference in the overall performance of students’ recorder playing technique between the group of using popular music and the group of using general music score. As a result, the implementation of using popular music in recorder teaching can surely improve students’ competence of recorder playing technique. However, different sexes, experiences in learning music instrument and participation in music club will not affect students’ competence in recorder playing technique. As for music learning interest, there is a significant difference in the performance of students’ music learning interest between the group of using popular music and the group of using general music score. Therefore, the implementation of using popular music in recorder teaching is definitely improved students’ music learning interest. However, different sexes, music learning experiences and musical club experiences will not cause an effect on music learning interest for students in these two groups. According to the research conclusion, the researcher proposes suggestion as reference for music educators and follow-up corresponding research units.
