The study was conducted at a primary school in a rural area of Pingtung County. Qualitative interview was the main method for data collection. By means of purposeful sampling, seven fathers from new immigrant families who have children either in lower, middle or higher grade were selected as the participants of the study. Semi-structured interviews were given to the participants along with their spouses, children and teachers of the children, in order to increase the diversity in data collection and reliability of the study. According to the data collection and analysis, the findings were concluded as follows: 1. In new immigrant families, aggressive attitude in paternal involvement is a result of pampering towards their spouses and commitment made to the families. 2. In new immigrant families, paternal involvement mainly focuses on academic guidance, support of the families and leisure activities. In addition, daily regulations, housework and parent-child talk are also considered to be supplementary. 3. Due to the language ability of their spouses, fathers of new immigrant families are concerned about academic performance of their children. Their concern for children’s schoolwork will not decrease as the kids move onto higher grades. Yet as the children get older, these fathers would like to understand more about their children’s inner thoughts instead. 4. Fathers of new immigrant families are responsible to most part of the family economy. They are also willing to spend leisure time with the children. 5. The concept of “men are breadwinners, and women are homemakers” is not significant in the new immigrant families. They are willing to share housework with their spouses. 6. Fathers of new immigrant families who participate in academic guidance are helpful to learning achievement of their children. Involvement of housework and affection also help their children establish a well relationship with school teachers and peers. Huang, Leefeng 黃麗鳳 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 121 zh-TW |
