Research Lotus Pond landscape transformation, social activities and cultural significance in the space. Each of the different stages of Lotus Pond history, architect of culture constructed lots of cultural codes, cause cultural representation and cultural reproduction, and then affect spatial image.
From Ching Dynasty, Lotus Pond was appearance on the stage of history. Fongshan Xian and Confucian Temple establishment made Lotus Pond value higher. The “Companion Pool’s Lotus Fragrance” is considered one of the “Eight Wonders” of Fongshan, connoted Chinese traditional literati on their expectations. In Ching Dynasty, Lotus Pond was scenic and holy in the mind of literati. Literati constructed Lotus Pond, and reproduced literati thinking in the space and culture.
During Japanese Rule, imperial examination of Ching Dynasty was abolished, so the essence and significance of Confucian Temple was detached, that made cultural imagery was gradually disappeared. Taiwan Governor General Office eliminated something about Chinese traditional culture. Part of culture was maintain, but there were transformation for requirement of the government. In addition to this, modern construction made core of original settlement diverted.
After 1949 year, Lotus Pond separated two periods, 80 Age for the line roughly. In Martial Law Period, the government was based in “Companion Pool’s Lotus Fragrance” advanced tourism and advocated Chinese Culture. After Post-Martial Law Period, the government relax part of policies. Taiwanization. Environmental Protection Movement. Native Movement etc. sprang up, so Lotus Pond is developed from more diverse leisure space.
