Women have strong motivation and desire to grow; it is natural for them to play social roles besides family and career ones. The interest of this study focuses on how women’s lives develop differently due to their volunteer work. This research includes a qualitative study of the hermeneutical paradigm, the use of semi-structured depth interviews, and the collection of the field data as well as the participants' personal information. With life course theoretical point of view to explore the life experiences of six senior family education volunteers, we try to understand their long-term motivation to participate in volunteer service, the transformation of their growth, and the significance of their personal life. After analying, the findings are as follows: Firstly, the reasons for participants’ continual service are multiple, including affiliative motive, achievement motive and socialized power motive. And the motivation is affected by the growth experiences of the original family. Secondly, family education volunteer service is a multi-pronged patterns, promotion volunteers assist the family education center for primary prevention; counseling volunteers’ work is secondary prevention; individualized family education services is to regain the initiative and send the service into the family. Thirdly, the volunteers must accept long professional training before services. Personal background may or may not help different learning. After setbacks and challenges, some people accumulate successful experiences and gain self-confidence, while others are dissatisfied with the process of peers group training and exit the team. Fourthly, volunteer service provides the space to grow and learn, expands the scope of the volunteer service, and has positive impact on family and other interpersonal relationships due to personal transformation. These women recognize the value of volunteer service as both giving and receiving, and as a positive, uplifting social force. Fifthly, volunteers grow in stages through services; they work, succeed or fail, and obtain different sort of understanding of life due to loving and painful life experiences. As a result, these volunteers gain insights into life and live happier lives. Finally, based on the findings, we make recommendations for volunteer service units, volunteers and readers who are interested in this topic. 楊巧玲 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 172 zh-TW
