The research method this study adopted was survey research. Questionnaires were mailed to 900 junior high school teachers of Kaohsiung city in Taiwan. There were 746 valid responses, and the success rate was 83%. The collected data were analyzed by using the statistical methods of reliability analysis, factor analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson Product-moment correlation and multiple regression (step-wise-regression procedure). The conclusions of this study were as follows: Junior high school teachers’ Personality Traits did not differ significantly in education background, but differed significantly in age, gender, years of teaching experience, scales of school size, and schools area. Junior high school teachers’ Interpersonal Communication Competence did not differ significantly in gender, education background, years of teaching experience and scales of school size, but differed significantly in age and chools area. Junior high school teachers’ Communication Effectiveness did not differ significantly in age, education background and years of teaching experience, but differed significantly in gender, scales of school size and schools area. There were significant correlations found between junior high school teachers’ Personality Traits and Interpersonal Communication Competence, Personality Traits and Communication Effectiveness, Interpersonal Communication Competence and Communication Effectiveness. The performance of junior high school teachers’ Personality Traits, and Interpersonal Communication Competence predicted the performance of Communication Effectiveness, especially the “Ability to express” aspect.
