The Confidence Weighting method aims to investigate students’ capability of self-assessment and probe into the differences between students’ academic achievement before and after implementing the method. Adopting General Monitoring Strategies Checklist as a tool on 256 students (131 boys and 125 girls), this study will analyze students’ performances under the execution of both Confidence Weighting Method and Non-confidence Weighting Method as dependent control variables. Through the statistical analysis, the results of the study are summarized as follow:
1. Confidence Weighted Scores are higher than Non-confidence Weighted Scores.
2. The confidence weighted score and non-confidence weighted score of the boys’ group are higher than the girls’ group as well as the accuracy and confidence.
3. The girls’ group performed better in the Good at Confidence Weighting than the boys’ group.
4. The degree of fitness of the whole constructed model is very good , and has high capacity of explanation in cognitive monitoring.
5. The Confidence Weighted Score and Non-confidence Weighted Score directly affect the academic achievement, which isn’t affected significantly by the Competence Indicators of Confidence Weighting, however.
This study suggests that Confidence Weighting provides an easier and more objective method in education to understand the condition of students’ self-confidence after they learn some specific content. As for learners, they improve their acquaintance with what they’ve learned, and develop higher competence of self cognition. So far as implementers are concerned, they can obtain effective assistance to understand learners’ perspectives toward the content through this method. As for the further study in the future, the possibility of implementation of online assessment system will enable the Confidence Weighting to be more significant in the aspects of timeliness, feedback and sustainability.
