Using images of the body for their expressive medium and physical gestures as their artistic language, artists convey their self-identity and creative motives to unveil the hidden potential of their will and body. This study will explore the female body as seen through a male perspective throughout traditional art history, and extended to touch upon modern perceptions by the mass media. An analysis will be conducted on images of female figures created by six young woman artists, including Lin Hsin-I, Kuo Hui-Chan, Chen Wen-jing, Hsu Hui-Ching, Isa Ho, Hou I-Ting. Interpreted through women’s diverse perspectives, the female figures portray convey creative concepts that are embodied within each artist. The artists use digital imaging techniques to alter the appearance of the human figure, forming a narrative about freedom that is told through the display of their own bodies. In the process of dismantling, assembling and misplacing, they construct images of the female figure that transcend the perceptions of a male audience. Through such an approach, images of the female figure no longer remain visually pleasing, but begin to serve as expressions of self-identity and subjectivity, transforming originally soft feminine qualities into strong masculine characteristics.
