There are two purposes of this study: 1. To explore the connection points between Japanese learned by high and vocational school students at the late stage of their secondary education and Japanese language education course connections in university. 2. To explore the channel by which high schools can hire “specialized” second foreign language Japanese teachers. The sources of research data are composed of the curriculum guidelines promulgated by the Ministry of Education, the high and vocational school textbooks in Japanese language education published by major companies, relevant master’s theses and journal information on high and vocational school Japanese language education, as well as website data from the academic centers at vocational schools. In order to achieve these research purposes, research methodology applied include comparative research, literature data analysis, telephone interviews, and questionnaire surveys, which are cross-applied. The researcher derives three research findings, from which two results are discovered and described as follows: 1. In order to resolve the problem of unclear connection between Japanese learned by high and vocational school students and university Japanese language education, it is necessary to add the number of credits to help students pass Japanese Examination N5. 2. In order to resolve the problem of most high schools being unable to hire “specialized” Japanese teachers, it is necessary to promote expanded implementation of second foreign language education by vocational schools, not restrict it to tourism departments, and increase the number of classes. The research purposes of this study are achieved through these two results. Even though this study met the research objectives by investigating curriculum guidelines, there are still points that were not evaluated deeply and comprehensively, especially for the Japanese language education curriculum in the Japanese group of the applied foreign languages departments at vocational schools. Two suggestions are proposed for future research issues: 1. Academic advancement Although this study mentions that graduates of vocational schools generally seek academic advancement, whether students from Japanese departments in vocational schools continue to major in Japanese at the university level was not investigated. If it is possible to conduct statistical analysis, Japanese teachers would be able to plan suitable modular Japanese language education courses. 2. Japanese ability This study deduces Japanese ability from the number of academic credits at high and vocational schools, but this investigation was focused on non-specialized elective Japanese courses, and an in-depth analysis on the Japanese group as a specialized subject was not conducted; this awaits further research. Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the Japanese language courses under the curriculum guidelines of high and vocational schools in Taiwan, in order to understand the current state of Japanese language education in high and vocational schools.
The researcher derives three research findings, from which two results are discovered and described as follows:
Two suggestions are proposed for future research issues:
1. Academic advancement
Although this study mentions that graduates of vocational schools generally seek academic advancement, whether students from Japanese departments in vocational schools continue to major in Japanese at the university level was not investigated. If it is possible to conduct statistical analysis, Japanese teachers would be able to plan suitable modular Japanese language education courses.
2. Japanese ability
This study deduces Japanese ability from the number of academic credits at high and vocational schools, but this investigation was focused on non-specialized elective Japanese courses, and an in-depth analysis on the Japanese group as a specialized subject was not conducted; this awaits further research.
