Soil from farmland was transported with turf that may causes environmental concern and spreading of pest/disease. Cut root of sod also makes the initial quality of turf poor and longer recuperation time demanded after transplanting. The heavy weight of those turf also makes the transportation cost higher which resulted from weight of soil attached to the sod. Production by thin layer system can solve the above problems. This study is aimed to establish a best mode of thin layer turf production, approaching from various aspects of turf production including grass species, medium, reproduction methods, growing environment, irrigation, growth control under different growing environments (green house, acclimatization field(outdoor with automatic spraying irrigation) outdoor environments). Warm and cool season grass species were assessed and centipede and perennial ryegrass were found the most suitable ones. Growing medium could be lower down to 0.3 cm – 1 cm and rural wastes could be used as production medium. Thinner medium such as 0.8 cm - 1㎝ showed the best mixture was coarse medium with organic manure 5:1 in volume ratio. Reproduction methods showed seeding was superior to sod, cutting, rhizome ( stolon ) reproduction in terms of operation time and labor cost. Environment with full sunlight was better than greenhouse. Plant growth under automatic mist irrigation showed better performance than those irrigated by mist irrigation with raised container on single side, manual spraying twice per day and tidal irrigation. Turf height was better controlled by cutting than those by brushing and pressing with board. The production efficiency assessment was evaluated mainly based on coverage and established turf time required supplemented by color, plant height, weed invasion, medium drain and lodging etc. The established turf quality was assessed mainly by objective visual assessment methods. grass weight, medium thickness and tensile strength of turf. Vegetation coverage, color, established rate, medium drain, plant lodging, medium crumbling rate was visually assessed while plant height, medium thickness, turf tensile strength and weight of growth container and turf weight was measured by measuring facility. High quality thin layer turf can be produced in a very basic greenhouse with very little medium made from rural waste in less than 3 months. Ji-Wei Huang 黃志偉 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 128 zh-TW
