Summary: | 碩士 === 南華大學 === 休閒產業經濟學系 === 101 === The pursuit of ethical practices and corporate social responsibility has been important factor that affects the quality and performance of the food industry. As major food safety incidents continue to appear in the news media, the government can take steps to formulate food hygiene and safety regulations to raise food quality and industrial ethics standard. Non-governmental organizations such as Quality Assurance Association have been assisted by the Department of Health to inspect and ensure food quality. Such actions are useful to guide the public to quality food vendors and help regain the confidence of consumers on food industries. These topics are the main issues discussed in this research.
This thesis surveys selected empirical and theoretical literature of business ethics during the 1999-2013 period as relevant to food industry safety issues and practices in Taiwan. The goal is to shed lights on possible approaches by official and the public to improve business ethics recognition and safe food provision practices. Periodicals, graduate thesis and general-purpose electronic research database are consulted for the research, accompanied by business ethics textbooks, news reports and other media sources.
Thesis is divided into five chapters, with the first describing the overall structure of the study, followed by introducing the origins of the relevant theories, and then by empirical literature and current situations and information about domestic food business ethics. It then proposes the favorable ethical practices and approaches to pursue in the future and ends with a suggestion of directions for future research.
