Abstract
This collection reflects the sorrow caused by a disea-
sed family member, which further triggered my anxiety and apprehension over the brevity of life and contributed to the psychological walls built for self protection. It is through the process of creating this collection that it achieved the effect of self sublimation and help me found ways to alleviate the intensity of fear.
The inspiration of this collection came from a fortu-itous observation- I suffered torment from a wound I got. The physical pain made it difficult for me to neglect its existence. Pain resulting from the healing process was tingling and unbearable;the c- onstant scratching caused the shedding of blood and afterward the growing of the skin
. It occurred to the author that the internal wounds are similar to the physical ones. Alt- hough hidden somewhere in the depth of our heart, the pain keeps resurfacing and hu- rting us. The author made use of intoxicating and candy-like color to cover the bloody wounds, which brings more balance for the mind in an ambivalent state of sweetness and pain. The collection began in 2008 and completed in 2012. By engaging in extens- ive reading of psychology, art theory and literature, the author synthesized relevant th- eory to decide her own framework for the creation of this collection. Using “complex” proposed by Freud and Jung, the author explored the suffering related to a traumatized heart and the spread of psychotically pain. In addition, the study further explored the healing effect of wounds and how to achieve a state of balance between sweetness and pain through self-compensation and self-sublimation. This whole process of art creati- on served to allay the anxiety of mind and inspired the author to keep more positive out-look on life. Furthermore, the collection represents the author’s unique viewpoints t- oward “wounds’ and guided her to propose new direction for art creation in the future.
