Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立新竹教育大學 === 藝術教育與創作碩士班 === 101 === Abstract I wrote words on the canvas. These words were mainly used as self-examination and daily life records before they were “painted” on the canvas. They clearly recorded everything in my life, even the ones of which I was not willing to be exposed, the secrets. When I transferred them onto a canvas, I blurred them by repeat overlaying. Therefore, some traces of writing might been recognized, yet not readable. The meanings of the words were drained, and there were only the metamorphosed lines and pigment left, presenting a word painting. In this research paper, I will explain the paintings by words during my graduate study. In chapter I, the Introduction, I will portray the origin of art creations by words as well as the motivation, goal, contents and the method of this research. In chapter II,I will discuss the evolution of words, from the ancient way of “remembering things by tying knots” to “recording things by words” since the invention of words. I will also emphasize the recording function of words, starting from my habit of keeping a diary and creations by the way of writing, to explore the anxiety hidden inside my mind. By doing so, I’d discover my anxiety then finally put into my art works. In Chapter III, I will study artists who create their art works with words like Alice Lok Cahana, Glenn Ligon and Xu Bing, I will also analyze their motivations and goals. In Chapter IV, I will analyze the “overlapping” and “covering”, the ways of art making, to sublime my personal anxiety. In Chapter V, the conclusion of this paper, I will generalize and summarize my series of works of this period in order to take the conclusion as a relay point for future creations about my life experience of living attentively. Key words: writing, word, anxiety, overlapping, covering
