The study is motivated by a surprising “overexposed photo”, which inspires the researcher to dig into the relationship between photo and realistic painting. Among all the factors, “light” is the bridge for the two parties. Through the literature gathering on relating theory and history, the study reveals the importance and the revolutionary character of light in relationship between photo and realistic painting. The researcher takes the realistic painting as the major artistic method to discuss the importance of idea of “transformation” in art by using the concept of failure. In addition, the researcher probes into the creations of the researcher to search the dialectical relationship between the momentariness of flash and the eternity of painting. The theoretical base of the creations is Plato’s Cave Allegory, in which applied for explaining the revealing character of light and for analyzing the development and the change of light in photography and painting, from life aura to the artificial aura with the coming of the age of reproduction. Themes in the concept and the form are careless night, cold and blank, and cutout; the psychological factor within or beyond the image are also included. Accordingly, the overall creations are divided into three series: “thriving weed”, “real life scenario”, and “parties and meetings”. Each one represents a transformation on style and mindset in different stages, conveying the uncertainty upholding by the youth of the new generation by using flash to run through a connecting thread in parody. The youth of the new generation are not capable of devoting themselves to the illusory utopia or reality as their parents and the discard state has iterated in the lowliness of the life of the researcher. This thesis studies the researcher’s creations from 2009 to 2012, which presents discussion of light in the form of painting and trying to portrait a youth of the new generation without sense of history and sense of belonging.
