碩士 === 國立新竹教育大學 === 音樂學系碩士班 === 101 === Music is a reflection of the humanity. In addition to its own structures and rules, music also has very tight connection and interaction with the society. Among all the factors associated with music, human beings are the key factor who create and express music and make sense of music in the society. Biography explores the life of an individual and may also focus on historical and cultural connections of the individual. This thesis describes the life of a music educator Der-Jen Sun and her works about children’s songs and opera. Besides the discussion about her career and exploration about her music and style, further analyses are performed in order to gain insight into the social and cultural roles of her music. This thesis is based on Sun’s life story along with her works intertwined in the discussion, allowing us to see details and broad viewpoints about her life and works. There are five chapters in this thesis. Chapter 1 is “Introduction”. The drive and purpose of the research are described, along with related literature, research methodology, and the scheme and limitation of the research. Chapter 2 is “Biography”. Therein, the personal life of Sun and the historical background are discussed. Chapter 3 is “Sun’s Education Idealism and Practices”. This chapter describes the background and processes of Sun’s idealism and practices in education. Chapter 4 is “Sun’s Music Works and Background”. This chapter includes two parts about her works: the first part is about the early childhood music materials “Musical Life” and the second part is about the children’s opera “The Little Pond Kingdom”. Chapter 5 is “Conclusion”. The existing problems in the research and future perspectives are discussed in here.
