Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 婚姻與家族治療研究所 === 101 === This study aimed to investigate the father-son affection experience and its Chinese cultural value in early adulthood, from the view of the younger generation. A narrative way of research was adopted in this study, and Chinese cultural value was used as a frame to understand and analyze the data. Four males in their early adulthood were invited to the deep interview, and the results were concluded in the following paragraphs. There are four main forms of affection experience between an early adulthood male and his father, namely: “the affection experience was embedded in ‘responsibility’ and ‘ethics ’”; “the affection experience changes with the economy of the family”; “the affection experience was influenced by parents’ relationship”, and “the emotional expression was presented in daily care instead of oral expression”. All of the above were related to a character’s responsibility, no matter financial and parental relationship, or daily care. Therefore, we could conclude that “whether a father performed his responsibility” was truly the key of the affection experience of father-son relationship in early adulthood. As how a male in early adulthood viewed the affection experience between himself and his father, there are five characteristics: “how father and son fulfills their responsibility would affect how their children regard and cope with their affection experience”, “in facing father-son conflicts, most sons would consider the circumstances, resources and other factors to decide different ways to deal with the conflict.”, “when a son was more able to sympathize a father’s role, he was easier to discard the hatred toward his father, and can even improve their affection experience.” From the above findings, the affection experience between father and son depended on whether each one performs his duty. Also, the sons would adopt various ways to cope with the changes, under the criterion of “keeping the affection experience in harmony”. From the above aspect, we can infer that “the golden mean mode of thinking” is probably the core of consideration, which widely influences how one integrates multiple cultural values. Through various ways (for example, different strategies of tolerance), one can maintain the comfort of one’s self and interpersonal harmony and develop positive power in facing father-son conflicts, or even improve the affection experience by lowering the conflicts. Finally, a further, integrated discussion is implemented based on the result of the study, and some concrete suggestions are provided for professional workers in the counseling field and serve as a way to further study.
