To explore the differences of body image, social physique anxiety, and physical activity among adolescents’ demographic variables (gender and BMI) in the single-sex and coeducation schools. 2. To predict the physical activity through the adolescents’ demographic variables (gender, BMI, and schools), body image, and social physique anxiety. Methods: The participants consisted of 835 adolescents (single-sex = 441, coeducational = 394, mean age = 16.48 ± .59) from 2 coeducation and 2 single-sex high schools in Taichung. The measurements included Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire (appearance evaluation, appearance orientation, body area satisfaction subscales), Social Physique Anxiety Scale (physical present comfort, negative physique evaluation concern subscales), and International Physical Activity Questionnaire- student show card version (vigorous-intensity activity, moderate-intensity activity, walking). Results: 1. There were differences in gender and body mass index on Body Image. 2. There were differences and interaction effect in gender, single-sex or coeducation schools, and body mass index on Social Physique Anxiety. 3. There was difference in gender on Physical Activity. 4. The gender and body image significantly predicted physical activity in which the body area satisfaction contributed the most. Conclusions: There were differences in gender and body mass index on social physique anxiety among adolescents in the single-sex and coeducation schools. In practice, the research suggests th physical education teachers should notice the impact of social physique anxiety among adolescents in the single-sex and coeducation schools. A friendly physical education environment and well-planned curriculum instructional design could prevent from learning constraints in physical activity context.
