Abstract
The main purpose of this research was to explore the current status of sexuality education and teaching needs of the teachers who teaching students with hearing impairment in elementary school. Their individual variances were examined on the basis of different personal and employment backgrounds, the relations among sexuality education practices, and teachers’ demands for sexuality education.
Teachers who teaching students with hearing impairment in elementary school had been inquired to complete a questionnaire created and edited by the researcher. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, t-test and one-way ANOVA were used to analyze the data. The findings were as follows:
First, there were 72.88% of the teachers implementing sexuality education in elementary school course.
Second, current status of sexuality education needs higher environment and overall support.
Third, there was a significantly difference on the current status of sexuality education for those teachers with age, marriage status, seniority of special education teaching, professional background of special education, teaching class. Also, degree of teaching needs showed a significant difference in teaching class.
Based on the above findings of this study, several suggestions for the governmental institution of education and teachers were proposed. A few guidelines were also offered for future studies.
