Researches presented that L. fortunei has different growth curve, developmental rate and reproductive cycle in different places, but no research was studied in the semi-closed environment without light. 30 adult mussels were sampled in monthly at Taoyuan Irrigation Ditch 100 meters inward from the opening from October 2007 to December 2008 to make paraffin section for determining gonad developmental stages. Dried body masses of 15 adult mussels were measured to calculate Condition Index. At the same time, water quality data were collected to speculate the relationship between the reproductive cycle of L. fortunei and the water environmental factors. 416 L. fortunei for paraffin section was 55.53 percent of males, 39.42 percent of females, and a hermaphroditism (0.24%), 4.81% not distinguished. L. fortunei in Taoyuan Irrigation Ditch had 2 reproductive cycles in spring and autumn. During Spring, GI value increased and gonad was mature when water temperature increasing. During autumn, GI value reduced and gametes were released when water temperature decreasing. In 2005-2006, L. fortunei in Taoyuan Irrigation Ditch had only one reproductive cycle in autumn. At this studies we found 2 reproductive cycle in a year in spring (March to July) and in autumn (September to November). It is suggested that L. fortunei has been adapted to semi-enclosed channel environment of Taoyuan Irrigation Ditch from one reproductive cycle a year to 2 cycles a year as the southern American populations did.
