Many studies pointed that yoga is beneficial to overall health; however, whether this effect remains in children’s attention is not well studied. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a yoga program on school-children’s attention. METHODS:Subjects were 41 second-graders from two classes in an elementary school and they were purposefully assigned to experimental and control groups. Other than regular physical education courses, the experimental group received two extra 40 minutes yoga sessions per week for 12 weeks. Multidimensional Attention Test was used to evaluate children’s attention before and after the intervention. Non-parametric statistics was implemented to analyze differences within and between groups. RESULETS:There were no significant differences between groups after the intervention. However, significant within group improvements were found pre-and-post the intervention. CONCLUSION:Twelve weeks of yoga exercises shows no significant influence on students’ selective attention, divided attention and sustained attention. Children’s growth development might be the major factor contributed to the insignificance between groups. Lee-Hwa Chen 陳麗華 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 99 zh-TW
