While beginners are practicing, they may be in a chaos when they have to frequently switch their attention between guitar tablature and left-hand. This may frustrate them and decrease their interest of learning. This thesis attempts to reduce this chaos by setting up a webcam on a guitar head to reflect left-hand fingers on the screen. Learners can glance the fingering hints which will be dynamically showed on the video when they don’t know how to press their fingers. It looks like they’re practicing in front of a magic mirror, which will give you advices. Our system applies Harmonic Product Spectrum to recognize real-time pitches and to compare them with the given notes. We also do onset detection to decide the starting time of each note. The system provides some popular songs, with basic guitar chords or single notes, for beginners to practice, so they can be more familiar with fingering skill of left-hand. They can also take tempo training to play a song with a fixed rhythm. The experimental result showed that our mirrored hint concept can help guitar beginners learn the left-hand fingering skill with pleasure.
