To analyze the child biomechanical response in falling can help to lessen the injury. Child anthropomorphic test device (ATD) is commonly used in automobile industries to improve the safety of vehicle. In this study, child ATD was design and chosen as an experimental device to analyze the children falling behavior. Head impact might lead to serious injury or even death, so the head injury always is a focus point for researchers. To further explore the behavior of falling, a new child dummy which has the head and neck of Hybrid Ⅲ 6-year-old child dummy, featured with 6-year-old Taiwanese child’s torso, lumbar, pelvis and thigh, was developed in this study. All part of dummy is certificated in this study. Two experiments, falling from bed and chair were conducted to demonstrate the performance of the newly designed dummy. Falling from bed and chair was two common accidents from children. Therefore, experiments based on these two situations were designed and conducted to demonstrate the performance of the newly designed child dummy. In both falling situation, the experiments from the different impact angle and height were also performed. The dummy head is instrumented with a 3-axis accelerometer to collect the head linear acceleration data in three directions during falling. In addition, a high speed camera was filming the process. Based on the acquired data, the possibility of the head injury and kinematic of falling can be analyzed. In conclusion, the experiment results demonstrate the capability of the new child dummy developed in this study. By utilizing this dummy, kinematics of the child during falling can be realized and the possibility of injuries can be predicted. Tsai-Jeon Huang 黃才烱 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 115 zh-TW
