Description
Summary:博士 === 國立成功大學 === 企業管理學系碩博士班 === 101 === Whereas employee mobility have been considered as the learning-by-hiring mechanisms in which firm acquire the outsourcing knowledge, comparatively little research deliberated the characteristics of employees to move from one firm to another. This paper claims that the characteristics of an inventor in terms of human capital, patent quality and network cohesion affect her/his mobility behavior. The implication is that some inventors are more likely to be hired away than their coworkers. We analyze the relationship between the characteristics of inventors filing patents at the high-tech firm in Taiwan and their probability of moving. Relying on patent data to track the movement of inventors across firms and to characterize the kind of know-how they hold, we identify the following drivers of inventor mobility: firm-specific and task-specific human capital they hold, their paten quality; the cohesion at their collaborative network, and the moderating effect of patent quality. Results confirm the role of task-specific human capital, patent quality as well as network cohesive behind the mobility of R&D personnel.
