Chen, Rumi 陳茹米 碩士 國立政治大學 亞太研究英語碩士學位學程(IMAS) 101 Rich in minerals, Mongolia’s geology has enticed numerous mining companies, which has transformed the traditionally agriculture-based economy. Mining wealth now bolsters Mongolia’s GDP. Mining is a key issue in Mongolian politics and now voters want to see a greater distribution of mining wealth, which has led to the development of localized infrastructure, providing employment and boosting economic output, and accelerating developmental rates. However, there are contrasting thoughts concerning the mineral booming since 1990s. When asking Mr. Hsu Chih-hsiung, Director of the Cabinet's Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs Commission what's the true meaning behind the establishment of a trade representative office in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and in Taipei, Taiwan, he said Taiwan’s government better adopted a pragmatic approach in dealing with Mongolia. Their exchange of representative offices marks a giant step forward in normalizing Bilateral Relations with Mongolia, the relationship between Taiwan and Mongolia experienced a tremendous breakthrough in January 2002. Mr. Hsu thought Taiwanese people must start to realize Mongolia is a country rich with mining resource that enticed global invertors coming to Mongolia. Does Taiwan catch the trend? The author wants to introduce the investment environment in Mongolia, and wish people of Taiwan pay more attention to better ties between these two countries.
